During the early days of
a field season archaeologists lay out square test units and excavate
through the top layer of soil (known as the 'plow zone'), which
often has been disturbed by centuries of agricultural practices.
In this photo Nicola Harrison, Eddie Dunlap, Justin Arocho, Cyndi
Volbrecht, Jennifer Props, Rachel Istvan, Thane Harpole, and Ginny
Horner (from left to right) begin excavations at the site.
